Can I Paint Metal?Updated 24 days ago

Angelus Paint can work on metal if you prepare the surface properly and seal it afterward.
However, we do not recommend painting wearable or high-flex metal parts (such as belt buckles, clasps, or other pieces that bend or move) because the paint may crack or chip with repeated movement.

Leather & similar materialsAngelus Paint is flexible and durable.
Metal parts (decorative, rigid areas)Sand lightly to improve adhesion. For extra strength, mix in Angelus 2-Hard with your paint. Seal with an automotive clear coat, epoxy, or an Angelus finisher for added protection.

Metal Painting Tips

  • Remove oils, dirt, and rust completely.

  • Lightly sand to create a better bonding surface.

  • Mix in Angelus 2-Hard with the paint for improved adhesion and durability.

  • After painting, seal with an automotive clear, epoxy, or Angelus finisher.

  • Avoid painting parts that flex, bend, or experience heavy wear.

  • Always follow product safety instructions and use protective gear.

Why It Matters

Proper prep and sealing allow Angelus Paint to adhere and last on metal surfaces that don’t flex or experience frequent impact. Adding 2-Hard to the paint improves adhesion and hardness, helping it hold up better on rigid metal. For wearable, bending, or high-stress metal components, no paint will remain durable long term.
