Does dye darken or lighten?Updated 2 months ago
Angelus Dyes are designed to restore colors to their original shade or a similar tone, rather than completely change them. Since dye works by soaking into the material, the final color will always mix with the existing color underneath.
✔ Example: If you apply red dye to a white surface, it may appear pink. If you use blue dye on something that’s already blue, it will simply create a darker shade.
✔ Important: You cannot lighten suede with dye—dye only adds color, it does not remove or lift existing pigment.
💡 Looking for a GREY shade using leather dyes? Try mixing Jet Black dye into Neutral dye—the more Neutral you add, the lighter the black will become, helping you achieve a close match to grey!
*Also, keep in mind that if there are darker spots/patches of leather, the dye will become darker in those areas.*
