How do I prepare leather with Rit Dye?Updated a month ago
How do I dye leather using the dip-dye method?
- Prep the Leather – Thoroughly clean the surface using a leather prep solution.
- Heat the Water – Use the hottest tap water available. If needed, heat water on the stovetop to around 140°F and mix it in.
- Dyeing Process – This method will give the leather a soft, vintage look. For a deeper, more vibrant color, we recommend using Angelus Leather Dye instead.
- Condition After Dyeing – The salt in the water/dye mix can dry out leather, so be sure to apply a leather conditioner afterward.
This is a dip-dye method only. For best results and further guidance, we recommend reaching out to RIT Dye directly.
