When to Angelus Leather or Suede Dye vs Rit Dye?Updated a month ago
Angelus Leather and Suede Dyes are formulated for direct application on leather and suede, making them highly pigmented and long-lasting. For canvas, denim, or other permeable materials, we generally do not recommend the dip-dye method using our dyes unless you can thoroughly wash out any excess pigment, as it can be difficult to remove.
Many customers love using our dyes diluted in Neutral dye for dip-dyeing, but keep in mind that Angelus Dyes are extremely concentrated and can be aggressive on certain materials. Some also use them to stain sneaker soles, achieving a custom color effect.
For fully dip-dyeing fabric items like jackets, bedsheets, or an entire pair of shoes, Rit Dye is often a great alternative. Because it’s water-based and has a lower pigment load, it disperses more evenly in water and provides a softer, vintage-style tint. When used correctly, it can create a smooth, even color across an entire item, making it a great choice for large projects or fabric-based customization.
